This notice explains what personal information this website collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and your rights. I have tried to keep it short and in plain English.

Who I am

This website, markandrewpreston.com, is run by me, Mark Preston. I am the “controller” of the personal information collected through it, which means I decide how it is used. You can contact me about privacy at mark.preston@prestonracing.com.

Young people

Some of this site, especially the careers advice, is written for students. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to sign up to the newsletter for you. I collect as little as possible about young people, and I do not use it for advertising or profiling. The Meta Pixel does not run on the careers advice page.

Who I share it with

I use these companies to run the site. They process information on my behalf, under their own data protection terms:

  • Automattic (WordPress.com and Jetpack): hosting, the newsletter, contact forms, comments, spam filtering (Akismet) and site statistics.
  • Google (Google Analytics): website statistics, only with your consent.
  • Meta (Meta Pixel): advertising measurement, only with your consent.
  • Google (YouTube): video playback, only when you press play.
  • Complianz: the cookie banner, which runs on the website itself.

Some of these companies are based in the United States, so your information may be transferred there. Where that happens, it is protected by the UK’s approved safeguards, such as the UK-US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

I will only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it.

How long I keep it

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Messages from forms: up to 2 years after our last contact, unless we go on to work together.
  • Comments: for as long as the post is published, or until you ask me to remove your comment.
  • Google Analytics: up to 14 months.
  • Cookie choices: up to 12 months, then you are asked again.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you;
  • ask me to correct it, or to delete it;
  • object to, or ask me to limit, how I use it;
  • ask for it in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time. You can change your cookie choices with the “Manage consent” button on any page, and unsubscribe from the newsletter from any email.

To use any of these rights, email me at mark.preston@prestonracing.com. I will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. I would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
